However, it is almost time to visit the fairytale Christmas markets of Europe to experience the decorations, the lights, the scents and a generally wonderful vibe. Europe puts on the best festive display, offering arts and crafts, delicious cookies and more. The following are five of the top Christmas markets in Europe, along with dates of opening.

One of the top destinations for Christmas markets in France is located just over two hours from Paris by train. Colmar is renowned for its festivities over the holidays and features six Christmas markets in its Medieval town center. Here, visitors can stroll past stalls and wooden chalets, piled with wonderful artisan crafts and gourmet food to enjoy. Naturally, the region’s Alsatian wine is also on offer. On top of all this, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons feature the children’s choirs singing traditional carols on beautifully illuminated boats on the water in the Petite Venise district of Colmar.
