This region of Montana takes its name from the Yellowstone National Park close by. In fact, Yellowstone is among the best US national parks when it comes to the fall, with shades of yellow, gold, burnt orange and red and a crispness in the air.

One of the best locations to visit in Yellowstone Country is Big Sky, Montana. Renowned as a winter sports destination, Big Sky is also gorgeous in the fall. Here, visitors can enjoy outdoor activities, like fly fishing and hiking, as well as gazing at the fall colors. In fact, this is the perfect spot to spend a few days in the Rocky Mountains.

If you find there is a chill in the air, you skip the outdoor activities for a while and head into town to visit its great stores, coffee shops, restaurants and breweries. Meanwhile, Big Sky is around a one-hour drive from Yellowstone National Park and also from Bozeman.

Visiting Bozeman is a great experience, too, as it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state. Moreover, the city has an airport that can be accessed from flights around the US.

Meanwhile, you should spend at least one day in the city, exploring its museums, arts and cultures, bookstores, breweries and coffee shops.

While visiting Yellowstone Country, make sure to head to Yellowstone National Park for a day or so. In fact, September and October are two of the best months to visit, and as this is the start of the off-season in the park, it really makes sense to head there. This time of year, the weather is mild and comfortable, with far fewer crowds than in summer. It is also a great time to see wildlife in Yellowstone, including bears, elk, buffalo and more.

Take time out to experience the fall colors of Yellowstone Country and Yellowstone National Park. This is a truly wonderful time of the year for a fall foliage visit.
