Enjoy the best Halloween in Macon, Georgia

We recently headed into September, meaning we aren’t only in autumn, but also in the scariest time of the year. For anyone wanting to celebrate a spooky Halloween, Macon, Georgia is just the spot. In October each year in Macon, hundreds of witches take to the Ocmulgee River to see if they can float. However, they do cheat a bit by taking standup paddleboards and canoes for a cruise down the river.

Meanwhile, the annual Witches Float at Amerson River Park in Macon invites “witches, warlocks and wizards” to swap their broomsticks for paddles to get into the “spirit of the season with this family-friendly event.” Moreover, guests are encouraged to wear a costume and bring any non-motorized flotation device for the event.

The 2024 Witches Float will happen on Sunday, October 6, from 2 – 5 pm local time, with witches gathering at 3 pm before taking to the water.

The town hosts almost 180 Victorian mansions that are all pretty spooky and are all occupied by ghosts. In fact, visitors can join the Ghost Hunt every weekend in October to visit local haunted historic locations including the Grand Opera House, Fort Hawkins, 1842 Inn and the Douglass Theater.

Moreover, visitors can also enjoy two ultra-spooky walking tours. These tours the Haunts & History on the Hill, and a walking ghost tour of Macon’s Intown neighborhood. Another fun tour is Saints and Sinners, which takes visitors through Riverside Cemetery with actors playing the role of spirits of some of Macon’s historical characters.

Michael Jackson fans will appreciate another Macon event with the 17th annual Thriller Parade. They can join in the action among the many zombies who recreate Jackson’s famous Thriller dance sequence.
