May is likely the most perfect month to travel as the weather is usually good no matter where in the world you go. Meanwhile, whether traveling to the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, the crowds are less than in summer when families and their kids are traveling. Moreover, with it being between spring break and summer vacation, May is the ideal time to take a trip. However, where are the best places to take a break during May? The Cyclades are hugely popular any time of the year, with many heading to Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and more. However, Conde Nast notes that a lot of chic hotels and opening there in 2024. By traveling in May, tourists could be among the first to stay at the five-star, 80-acre Gundari Resort on the island of Folegandros, which opens that month. The resort’s beautiful villas and views over the Aegean make this destination in the Greek Islands perfect.

2. See the tulips in May in Holland, Michigan

It isn’t always possible to get to the Netherlands for tulip season, so why not head to Holland, Michigan instead? Perfect for a day trip from Chicago, the town has pretty, Germanic villages, old-fashioned windmills and yes, you guessed it, thousands of tulips. Meanwhile, the best time to visit is during the Tulip Town Festival from May 4 to 12. The event celebrates the town’s Dutch history with a market and costume exhibit, a carnival and flower-themed events like yoga in the tulips and flower arranging lessons.

3. Nature in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

The warm season in the Galápagos Islands runs from December through the end of May, making it ideal for a May vacation. Here, visitors can enjoy nature at its finest, viewing the giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies and newborn sea turtles. Moreover, this is the best time to go diving and snorkeling with the best underwater visibility. Meanwhile, the Zambezi River flows through on its way to Victoria Falls, one of the most amazing waterfalls in the world. May is the perfect time to visit when the bush is still lush and green and the weather isn’t yet too hot. It is also ideal for the perfect light for photographing the amazing wildlife in South Luangwa National Park.

5. Nantucket, Massachusetts, USA

Nantucket is beautiful in every season, but visiting in May means fewer crowds as you explore the island. Whether biking on the island or sailing around it, travelers can enjoy fabulous views of the three million daffodils that bloom here every year in late April and early May. Meanwhile, the best dates to visit here are from May 15 to 19, when the Nantucket Wine & Food Festival is in full swing.
