As a general rule, anywhere in Spain is family-friendly, as the family is all-important to Spaniards. However, some places stand out as truly kid-friendly locations for a family vacation. In this case, Pollensa nestles at the foot of a mountain on the Balearic Island of Mallorca and offers so many things for kids and parents to do.

Explore the hilly areas of Pollensa

One option for families of older children is to visit some of the hilly areas of the city. One of these is taking the 365 steps up to El Calvario (Calvary Chapel). The steps are lined with Cypress trees for cooling shade and the views from the top are incredible. You can just see the chapel in the image above, right at the top of those steps.

Visit the Pollensa Market each Sunday between 8 am and 1:30 pm. Located in the Plaza Major in the center of town, the market offers around 300 stalls with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, textiles, arts and crafts. This is a fun way to introduce the kids to the culture of the island while seeking out the best souvenirs to take home.

The older kids will appreciate the beauty of Pollensa’s oldest buildings, including the Puig de Maria, a Gothic building that was once a monastery. Meanwhile, a visit to the Convent to Sant Domingo is of interest, which was built in the 1500s.

Physical fun in town

If you prefer to park your rental car when exploring the town, there are bicycle rentals available all over Pollensa. Meanwhile, the town is cycle friendly and it is a wonderful way to take in the sights in the fresh air.

For the smaller children, there is a playground in Calle Sant Domingo, a perfect pit stop for tired parents, who can relax while the kids have fun. Another wonderful option is to learn horse riding at one of the local horse ranches – ideal for anyone from a total beginner to an expert.

Head to the beach in Pollensa

Of course, families always love spending time at the beach where a variety of water sports are available. Head down to Puerto Pollensa, which stands alongside some of the most attractive beaches in Mallorca. Among the options are fine sand beaches and accessible coves.

For families with older kids and teens, more remote beaches can be accessed by hiking, or renting a small boat in the port.

Family dining in Mallorca

The town of Pollensa features many options for family-friendly dining including cafés, tapas bars and restaurants. The kids will particularly love the dessert shops and bakeries, with plenty of sweet treats.

For delicious ice cream, visit Heladería Ca’n Noble in Carrer del Temple, 13. Alternatively, have your cake and eat it at Pastelaria Can Xim in Carrer de la Mar, 11. Meanwhile, La Mar Dolça serves coffee for the parents, while the kids enjoy the many sweet treats on offer. You can always work off the sugar rush by climbing those 365 steps up to El Calvario again!
