This cross-border zipline experience takes adventurers across the Guadiana River, traveling more than 2,000 feet at speeds of between 70 and 80 km/h (230 and 262 ft/h. Even better, the experience “flies through time” as participants gain an hour due to the time zone difference between the two EU nations.

According to Limitezero, on arrival in Portugal, adventurers will walk for around five minutes to reach the Alcoutim pier in Portugal, where a ferry is available every 30 minutes to take them back to Spain.

Travelers should note, however, that the cost of the ferry is not included in the zipline ticket price. Meanwhile, there is no time limit on the experience, as travelers can explore Alcoutim to their pleasure while there.

Perfect location for ziplining

Limitezero is the brainchild of David Jarman, who sought out the perfect location for the ziplining experience. He told the French media outlet TF1:

In the world of ziplining, everyone wants to go faster, longer, higher. But there are so many already that it’s hard to stand out. This place was perfect for something different.

Meanwhile, around 10,000 visitors are happy to pay €25 (around $28) for the experience. However, they don’t just do it for the adrenaline rush. As the zipline travels west, adventurers cross not only a border but also a time zone. While zipping across the river, they gain an hour due to the difference in time. It almost feels like a sci-fi movie about time travel.

Ziplining adventurers should, however, take note that the cross-border zipline is a seasonal attraction. It is closed from mid-November to mid-February in the winter months. Due to this, travelers should plan their visit accordingly. However, bookings are available online on the Limitezero website. Alternatively, they can call +34 670 313 933.

About Sanlúcar de Guadiana

Located in the Huelva province of Andalucia, Spain, Sanlúcar de Guadiana borders Portugal, and is a 50 km (31 mi) drive from the city of Huelva. Meanwhile, the pretty white village is overlooked by the historic and restored San Marcos Castle.

A ferry is available to take foot passengers from the town to Alcoutim across the river. However, driving from Sanlúcar to Alcoutim by road involves a trip of about 70 km (43 mi). This makes the cross-border zipline an even more popular mode of travel between the two towns.

Nestling on the banks of the Guadiana River in the Algarve, Alcoutim has held a strategic position since ancient times, while bordering the Spanish town of Sanlúcar del Guadiana. A short walk in the town takes visitors to centuries-old homes and monuments. These include the Church of Misericórdia (Igreja da Misericórdia) and the Castle, home to the Archaeology Museum Nucleus (Núcleo Museológico de Arqueologia). Notably, the latter hosts the largest collection of board games from the Islamic period discovered in one archaeological site.
