Instead of flying to a distant destination to start the journey, Holland America Line is offering a new take on the usual approach to sailing to Antarctica.
Holland America Line announces Antarctica cruise out of Florida
Those Americans wishing to sail to Antarctica don’t need to take an international flight to far foreign lands first with this new voyage. Holland America Line announced that a new Antarctica cruise will head out from Florida, a location thousands of miles from the usual South American ports where cruises normally begin. For those living within driving distance of Fort Lauderdale, where the cruise will start, will find it much more convenient than an international flight.
Volendam [Image Holland America Line on Facebook]Starting on January 25, 2025, the new cruise will feature a 47-night getaway on the cruise line’s 1,432-passenger ship Volendam. According to The Points Guy, the sailing is a segment or part of a longer Pole-to-Pole world cruise.
About the voyage itinerary
Voyage to Antarctica from Florida [Image Holland America Line]Guests onboard the Volendam will stop in ports such as Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic; Santa Marta in Colombia; and Puerto Limon in Costa Rica. Moreover, the ship will also sail through the Panama Canal. Following this, guests will enjoy a three-week segment along Central and South America. This will also include other ports of call in such countries as Panama, Ecuador and Chile.
From there, the Volendam will head across the Strait of Magellan on the southern tip of South America before crossing the choppy Drake Passage to finally arrive in Antarctica, where the ship will spend four days sailing around the coast. However, readers should note that there will be no landing on that continent for guests of the Volendam.
Moreover, after sailing around Antarctica, there will be additional stops including the Falkland Islands and Puerto Madryn in Argentina.
