Saudi Arabia currently works on making it much easier for international tourists to visit the country. Recently, the country announced an easier visa application process. Read on to find out whether that’s likely to keep pulling people in the middle east.

A New Visa Package

PR Newswire carried the press release by The Saudi Tourism Authority this week, and the announcement revealed that “Saudi introduces [a] ‘package visa’ integrating travel booking with easier visa application.”

In other words, people visiting the country can combine a lot of their travel itinerary in one simple move. That’s because they can obtain their visa when they book their trip online.

The idea is simple. Travelers can book flights and accommodation while completing the visa process at the same time instead of handling everything separately.

The rollout isn’t available everywhere yet. And for now it’s limited to specific markets. But the expansion’s envisaged to keep growing through the rest of the year.

Regional Instability Is A Worry

The recent conflict involving Iran and the United States causes a lot of problems for countries in the area and that might make folks hesitate to book a trip to Saudi Arabia. Some travelers may prefer to postpone a trip until regional tensions ease.

Some travelers remain cautious about the region, although others continue to visit without the same concerns.

Notably, some growth did happen in the first quarter of this year per eTurboNews. The outlet reported that there’s been an increase of eight percent in visitors.

However, that growth didn’t come from international travelers looking for a vacation. In fact, they took a dive by 13 percent.

Religious Tourism Is Still Strong

Locally, visits to Saudi Arabia jumped by 16 percent. Most of those visitors were pilgrims and religious tourism demand is still very high in local economies.

They don’t seem terrified because of the familiarity of visiting their own safe zones. Even with instability, they persist in travel and the new visa system only makes their lives a lot easier.

Western Visits Remain Cautious

Western tourists may be more reluctant to book a holiday than they were a few years ago. It’s only natural that the security issues may put them off. Even if Saudi Arabia isn’t directly involved in a conflict, Fragomen warned in its Middle East updates that recent regional conflicts caused “airspace closures and flight suspensions.”

Riyadh Air and other local hubs keep flying regular routes but Some travelers may worry that flights could be canceled or diverted.

Travel advisories issued by several Western governments may also influence people’s decisions.

For a family looking for a simple sunny holiday, a simpler visa application doesn’t automatically remove concerns about regional security.

Other Markets

For now the country’s tourism sector seems stable even with fewer western arrivals. Visitors from outside the West now account for nearly 60 percent of tourism spending. which does illustrate that the whole world isn’t reliant just on travelers from Europe or the USA.

Tourism growth comes from places like China, India, and Türkiye because their nationals don’t seem as hesitant as those who come from countries where issues with Iran pose a problem.

The Most Likely Beneficiaries

In practical terms, the people most likely to benefit are pilgrims, business travelers and those visiting relatives. Leisure travelers from Western countries may still prefer to wait until regional tensions ease before booking a trip.
