For those who love adventure, Maui offers every kind of water sport, including surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Maui has many idyllic beaches to choose from, but these three stand out for the perfect vacation in the sun:

– Red Sand Beach

Red Sand Beach in Hana is crescent-shaped and takes its rosy hue from Ka’uiki Head cinder cone. Meanwhile, the waters here are stunning – crystal clear and perfect for a dip. When in town, take the walking trail from the end of Uakea Road to hike to this perfect spot.

– Big Beach

If you are a surfer, or just want to watch surfers in action, head to Big Beach in Maui. After a day on the sand and in the water, you will be amazed by the impressive waves and the talented surfers riding them.

– Maluaka Beach

Located in the south of Maui, Maluaka Beach once fronted the Makena Beach and Golf Resort. However, most of the property shut its business, meaning the crowds have gone away. Due to this, Maluaka Beach is the perfect place to enjoy the pristine sand and turquoise waters all to yourself.

Best Things to do in Maui

Besides spending time on the beaches, Maui offers many exciting activities, as follows:

– Stand Up Paddle with Whales

The folks at Hawaiian Paddle Sports are there to expertly teach and guide you on a trip through Maui’s south or west shores. Due to the warm, protected waters, many humpback whales migrate to the island’s surrounding coastal waters. The best time to experience this adventure is from December through April, a time when you are most likely to see these friendly mammals in large groups. They also offer kayak tours.

– Visit a Winery

Enjoy a breathtaking drive through the green Maui countryside to spend some time at MauiWine. Once there, enjoy a tour of the winery and taste the twenty wines produced here. Among the best is the Maui Blanc, a crisp white wine made from Maui gold pineapples.

– Take a hike in Maui

Maui is crisscrossed with many spectacular hiking trails, offering incredible views along the way. One of the best is the Waihe’e Ridge Trail, a 2.5-mile trail winding through the windward slope of the West Maui Forest Reserve. While hiking, you’ll find yourself surrounded by lush rainforest as you head to the Makamakoele Falls.

– Road trip!

Maui is a great place for a road trip and one of the best is driving the road to Hana on the eastern side of the island. Leaving from Kahului, Hana is less than 60 miles to drive. However, with the many hairpin turns and bridges, it won’t be a quick journey but is wonderfully scenic.

The Hana Highway officially stops at the edge of town on the far northeast coast of Maui. The stretch of highway connects Kahului with Hana Town. However, the most popular starting point for a road trip is from Paia, following Highway 36 until it becomes Highway 360. if you stay over in Hana, you can spend the next day in Haleakala National Park.

– Explore Haleakala National Park
