When Squid Game first aired in 2021 it soon became a record-breaking phenomenon. Fans loved the show and so did critics as the South Korean series won a Primetime Emmy Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Gotham Independent Film Award and the Critics’ Choice Television Award.

Through its story, the show reveals the subject of class inequality and its brutal impact on people. Now, finally, season 2 of Squid Game is available for streaming, taking viewers back into the world of a gruesome game. As with season 1, the second season of Squid Game is streaming on Netflix, and its story once again revolves around children’s games with a deadly twist. 456 debt-ridden challengers have no other way to survive than to compete for the huge cash prize.

Season 2 of the K-drama started streaming on Netflix on December 26, 2024, as a late Christmas present for Squid Game fans. While the second season only features seven episodes, fans can rest assured that season 3, the finale of the story, is already set for release in 2025.

The new season will see the return of some familiar faces from season 1, along with a constellation of new stars ready to play the game. Lee Jung-Jae returns as the protagonist, Seong Gi-hun, while Lee Byung-hun again plays Front Man, the antagonist. The role of the recruiter is once again played by Gong Yoo, while Hwang Jun-ho will play detective Wi Ha-jun, who turns out to be the Front Man’s brother.

While production kept things quiet about the season 2 filming locations, news has revealed some of the iconic locations and information on the set design. Read on to find out about the major shooting locations for Squid Game season 2.

Incheon International Airport

Incheon Airport is the gateway to South Korea and the main international airport serving Seoul. The airport was built on reclaimed land between Yongyudo and Yeongjongdo Islands. Meanwhile, it is more than just a transport hub as it hosts art and cultural museums, including the Traditional Culture Experience Zone, Korean Culture Museum, and Arrival Hall Culture Street.

Season 2 sees the airport used as a filming location for Squid Game, where passengers were navigating the airport while filming was underway, a no doubt fascinating experience.

The airport can be reached from several train stations, including the Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 station and the Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 station.

The Expo Science Park is already a top visitor destination in Daejeon, with fun and adventure for everyone. Meanwhile, all the major sets for the series were created at Daejeon Expo Science Park, but season 2 has made a few changes. Those “maze corridors” the contestants used to reach their challenges have now been made larger while featuring more colorful stairs.

Fans will recall the massive dormitory that accommodated the 456 game participants is also located in the park, while season 2 will see new additions of “X” and “O” zones. These are an essential part of the narrative for the second season, where participants will be forced to choose sides.

Seongapdo Island

In season 2, the games are held on a remote island, where exterior shots were filmed on Seongapdo Island. Meanwhile, the island lies near Incheon and is privately owned, just like it is in the series and is not accessible to the public. Moreover, the actual games were filmed in studios. In the latest trailer, Detective Wi Ha-jun can be seen on the island.
