The new 2024 Blue Flag certifications were received by Playa Delfines, the Fiesta Americana Condesa, Live Aqua, Flamingo, Iberostar hotels and the Cancún Sailing boat company and more. Meanwhile, the state of Quintana Roo enjoys the most Blue Flag-certified boats in the world at 36.

Operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education, Blue Flag is a voluntary award. It is awarded to beaches, boats and marinas that achieve high levels of sustainability, safety, education and accessibility. Meanwhile, there are more than 5,100 certifications around the world. Moreover, Mexico features the most certified locations in North America, while raking tenth globally.

Speaking of the latest certifications, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa said in a statement:

I am very pleased to know that today we not only reflect the commitment of those who had already been awarded, of those who had already achieved that flag, but that more are joining and those who reaffirm their commitment.

“It is not just about arriving, it is about staying, it is about continuing every day, it is about sharing. Look how blessed we are with these natural beauties. The best thing that Quintana Roo has is you, it is its people,” Lezama added.

The certifications for Playa Delfines, the Fiesta Americana Condesa, Live Aqua, Flamingo, Iberostar Hotels and the Cancún Sailing boat company were presented by the European Foundation of Environmental Education’s (FEE) Executive Director, Joaquin Díaz Ríos

Joaquín Díaz reminded us that Quintana Roo, the state in which Cancun falls, is the state with the most beaches and boats with the coveted certifications. He added that this speaks of responsibility and care and a joint functionality to not only offer clean beaches but also environmentally responsible locations.

During the 2024-2025 season, the Benito Juárez municipality in Cancun achieved the renewal of 43 awards, now joined by four more certifications, bringing the total to 47 awards.

Riviera Maya News quotes Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña as saying that “working together with the federal, state and municipal government as well as private initiatives, the municipality of Benito Juárez ranks first nationally with Blue Flag certified sites and first place internationally with Blue Flag certified vessels.”
