Fully restored Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On Reopens
Over the weekend, the Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On iconic roller coaster thrilled its riders as the ride reopens. Among the renovations, 900 feet of the roller coaster’s steel track is ready for riders to experience new sights, sounds and surprises while thoroughly enjoying the ride.
After the longed-for reopening, the adventure on Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On starts with a new themed entrance and ride platform. From there, guests experienced the lift hill climb, backed by a brand new soundtrack created for Nessie.
As guests hang on for the first drop, they will catch a glimpse of something monstrous hidden under the water. Moreover, they come face-to-face with the Loch Ness Monster in its scary cave lair.
A new generation of thrill seekers
Speaking of the reopening of the exciting roller coast, Busch Gardens Williamsburg President Kevin Lembke said:We gave our Members the opportunity to be the first to experience the reimagined Loch Ness Monster during exclusive Member ride time this past week, and they loved it
For many of our Members, Loch Ness Monster was their first roller coaster.
“These Members and their families, alongside a new generation of thrill-seekers returned for a preview of our newest attraction,” Lembke said. “Now, we can’t wait to share this thrill with all our visitors today and for many years to come.”
Busch Gardens held a Grand Opening Ceremony for the Loch Ness Monster: The Legend Lives On, complete with a traditional Scottish bagpipe performance.
Meanwhile, long-standing members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts joined the park’s leadership, along with local dignitaries for the ribbon-cutting and the inaugural ride on the newly revamped roller coaster. Moreover, long-standing members of the American Coaster enthusiast met up with Busch Gardens leaders for the ceremonial first ride.

First opened in June of 1978, the Loch Ness Monster has been a fan-favorite ride ever since. In 2024, the roller coaster celebrates its 46th anniversary at Busch Gardens Williamsburg after a major restoration. Among the new attractions are thematic and experiential elements that truly enhance the park’s most iconic attraction.As for the ride itself, the Loch Ness Monster runs for around 2 minutes and 35 seconds, while reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Moreover, the minimum height requirement for the exciting ride is 48 inches.
