National Park Service announces free entry days
Each year, the National Park Service (NPR) reveals free entry dates for the parks on six days of the year. This gives all Americans to chance to visit these amazing parks, no matter how much money they have. The NPS has now revealed free entry days for more than 400 parks. This allows visitors to explore a new park, or head back to a favorite, especially at those that typically do charge an entrance fee.
The following are the days when visitors can head to the parks free of charge.
- January 15: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
- April 20: First day of National Park Week
- June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
- August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
- September 28: National Public Lands Day
- November 11: Veterans Day
Readers should note, however, that NPS officials said the entry fee waiver for those approved days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities like boat launches, camping, special tours or transportation.
If an entrance fee is a barrier to anybody visiting, we want to be able to take that away on certain days throughout the year to encourage people to go and visit a park maybe they’ve never been to before.
“The majority of national parks are free to enter every day,” Kupper added, saying, “Currently, there’s 109 of the 400-plus that have an entrance fee.”
Other offers available for the parks
Moreover, the NPS also offers free or discounted passes for senior citizens, current military members, disabled citizens and families of fourth-grade students. Meanwhile, entrance fees that are paid remain within the NPS, with at least 80 percent kept for the park where it was collected.
Have fun visiting the amazing National Parks of the USA in 2024 on the special free entry days and more. With such an amazing diversity among them, the parks are truly worthwhile visiting. If you can, try visiting a different park each year.
