Solo travel is becoming a major “thing” in 2023, and this is a good thing. However, for women traveling alone, there are certain dangers to avoid. While this may sound bizarre, her tip actually makes perfect sense.

As solo travel continues to be a popular trend around the world, one cabin crew member likes to offer tips for traveling safely. In her latest TikTok, Esther Sturrus of the Dutch airline KLM has recommended a way to check under your hotel bed. She recommends that hotel guests throw a bottle of water under the bed as they enter the room, to ensure that no one is hiding there.

Esther regularly shares travel-related tips to her TikTok account and this was the latest video relating to solo travel, particularly for women.

As she explains, tourists can easily be targeted by intruders especially when staying on the ground floor of a hotel, or one easily accessible from outside. By throwing the bottle of water, and ensuring it comes out on the other side, you can “check that no one is under the bed without looking.”

Meanwhile, this particular TikTok video also offers tips on “dry cleaning” your clothes using steam from the shower, de-steaming the bathroom mirror and storing toiletries. Back in October 2022, Esther shared a video detailing all the things she does first when entering her hotel room. That video has received almost 39 million views. Moreover, the tips include locking the door, adjusting the air conditioning and closing the curtains.

Among the comments to the cabin crew member’s TikToks, travelers have praised her tips. On viewer deemed the tips “super useful”, while another wrote that “flight attendants are the real MVPs.”

On the latest video, one traveler wrote, “Never even occurred to me that someone could be under the bed.”

Checking the hotel room safe

Meanwhile, the flight attendant also made the news in April while sharing her top 10 travel tips, one of which included leaving a shoe in the room safe. At that time, Esther said, “This way you will never forget anything from your safe. You will notice when you want to leave that you are missing a shoe.”
