As we head closer to winter, many people dream of a city break to explore the gorgeous Christmas markets of Europe. Others dream of getting away from the cold weather and heading for warmer climes. Whatever the choice, Airbnb has put together a list of the most popular travel destinations for this coming winter.

Airbnb reveals the most popular winter travel destinations

If you are dreaming of a winter break, the popular vacation rental platform Airbnb has put together a list of the top trending locations to choose from. They based the list on searches for winter travel between January 1 and September 15, 2023, including 10 of the most popular global destinations. Read on to find out more.

Hong Kong comes up at No. 1

It turns out that Hong Kong is right at the top of Airbnb’s list of the most popular winter destinations. While the city can get pretty steamy in the summer, it is especially popular during the fall and early winter when the temperatures are moderate, with low humidity.

It doesn’t get better than that for enjoying a retail therapy break in the shopping-friendly city. Meanwhile, Hong Kong also has plenty of exciting nightlife and delicious food to enjoy on a perfect winter getaway.

Buenos Aires, Argentina at No. 2 in the most popular winter travel spots

Next in line at No. 2, Airbnb lists Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, which offers sunshine during our winter months. Located in the southern hemisphere, the city warms up as those in the north cool down. Enjoy the warm weather, exploring the Plaza de Mayo in the city center with its stately 19th-century buildings, like the Casa Rosada, a beautiful, balconied presidential palace.

Head to the 1908 opera house, Teatro Colón to enjoy a show in one of the almost 2,500 seats. Alternatively, explore the modern MALBA museum, with its beautiful Latin American art. Meanwhile, the best time to visit is any time up until early January, when Argentina’s summer temperatures start to rise.

Muang Pattaya, Thailand at No. 3 according to Airbnb

Next in line is the beautiful Thai city of Muang Pattaya which offers travelers warm weather over the December to February period. The city nestles on the eastern Gulf Coast and boasts idyllic beaches, for which the city has been dubbed the “Hawaii of the East.”

While it was a quiet fishing village until the 1960s, Muang Pattaya’s coast is lined with high-rise condos, resort hotels, and shopping malls. Moreover, for evening entertainment, the city offers cabaret bars and lively 24-hour nightclubs. For those who love golf, the city offers a number of designer golf courses, some with beautiful views over Pattaya Bay. Not surprisingly, Thailand features two destinations on Airbnb’s list.
