Obviously, it wouldn’t be right to not at least mention one Cuban cigar and this one is special. In fact, it holds a Guinness World Record for its incredible size. This giant cigar is the work of master cigar roller, Jose Castelar Cairo, or Cueto as he is known. Moreover, Cueto has beaten his own world record several times, with the longest measuring an amazing 268 feet. He also dedicated the giant cigar to the famed Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The record-breaking cigar is hidden away in the Morro Castle Historic Park and isn’t always open to visitors. But, not to worry, ask a local tour guide to take you there. Your guide should be able to persuade the cigar shop management to open up for a selfie or two. Watch the video below to find out more:

Discoteca Ayala, Trinidad

Like many places in Cuba, Trinidad is a major party destination, but the best place to be is a unique nightclub. Discoteca Ayala is hidden away 100 ft below ground in a cave. Also dubbed La Cueva, this dance club plays the top 40 dance hits and guests can party while surrounded by stalactites.

The disco is located on the northern outskirts of Trinidad, around a ten-minute walk from the city center. As you approach, you will immediately notice a lack of noise, but don’t let that put you off. Once you pass through the gated entrance and navigate a long flight of stairs, you will discover a tunnel, heading into the club.

Once inside, the dance floor is open and the music is blaring, plus you get one free drink from the stone-carved bar. Meanwhile, dancers are entertained by a mix of salsa and techno music and videos playing on suspended screens. The videos show Cuban dancers and spring breakers partying away, while visitors dance among stalactites and stalagmites, lit up with multi-colored lights.

Not to put you off, but the cave is named for Carlos “Coco” Ayala, who allegedly abducted children and murdered them in the cave. While that is a sobering thought indeed, it makes the disco that much more unique. Readers can take a look at the disco in the video below.

Parque Prehistórico, Viñales

This one is a great option if visiting Cuba with the kids, as they all love dinosaurs. The Parque Prehistórico in Viñales is a small outdoor museum run by Jesus Arencibia Coro and located at Adela Azcuy, 6 Norte. However, it’s not just about dinosaurs. When approaching, you will see a small sign reading: “Parque Prehistórico de Referencia Nacional. Paleontology. Biology. Anthropology. Natural Medicine.”

Meanwhile, the museum is full of dinosaur specimens that have been donated from around the world and encased in concrete. However, as mentioned, the park is more than just dinos, as it also exhibits plants and specimens collected by Coro and from donors around the world. Among them are prehistoric, medicinal and endemic plants and Coro can tell you all about them. As for the dinosaurs, he also knows the history of each one.

While there is no admission fee to enter, Coro will ask for a small donation to give a personal tour. He also welcomes any specimens visitors wish to donate in lieu of an admission charge.

Have fun on vacation in Cuba, and make sure you visit these unique attractions on this lively Caribbean island.
